My Story /

A brief tale of where it all began.....
The master at work.....

The master at work!! Here I am in my Kendal studio, looking busy, in current times.....

So who am I?

Back in the day.....

Jon Allison is who. Here I am in days gone by, seeking inspiration and learning the meaning of life from the mountains.

I spent my early life living in Preston before it became a big city. I worked in outdoor retail which gave me the perfect opportunity (gear at cost price!) to indulge in my passion for climbing and mountaineering, which I’m still keen on to this day, albeit a little slower now. It was during this time that I rekindled my interest in photography, something I’d taken further at college before starting out on my working life. I was told I had quite a talent and should try selling some of my images. Annie and I eventually moved up to Kendal and, along with my business partner Mike, opened the highly regarded Kentdale Rambler outdoor shop. A horrible motorcycle accident back in 2000 left me unable to work for some time and it was during this period that I started collecting my images and thinking about how to take it further. Then my poor old dad died suddenly and the two events proved something of a life changer…….
I awoke with the name “Mountainscenes Photography” running around in my head. A quick Google check proved the domain name available and that's where it all started. I soon realised I had to get myself back out on the fells as much as I could, to help body and mind recover, and quickly decided to hand over my share of the business to Mike. Initially I sold a few framed prints at Kendal indoor market, then found the domain www.lakedistrictprints.co.uk was available so quickly purchased that and started to develop the website. As sales increased I had to move out of my home office and take on a studio just out of town. And the rest, as they say, is history…..
And that, fellow mountain lovers, is my story. So far anyway.......
